(PASCII) Perso-Arabic Script
Code for Information Interchange
The Perso-Arabic Script Code for Information Interchange,
devised by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing
(C-DAC), defines storage standard Urdu, Sindhi, Kashmiri
and Arabic. The collating sequence of codes has been
maintained in ascending order with respect to the
languages. Necessary diacritic marks and symbols have
been included for the said languages.
Following is a listing of some of the characteristics of PASCII
- 8-bit storage standard
- Defines codes for Urdu, Sindhi, Kashmiri and Arabic
- Codes defined in upper ACII range. (This leaves the lower ASCII range free, and can be used for English alphabets e.g. to give a bilingual font support).
- Defines numerals other than ASCII numbers (48 to 57). This will help supporting both Arabic Numerals 0-9 and language specific numerals
- Collating sequence is same as alphabet sequence in respective languages
- Letters common in languages have been given same code value. This means one code value can refer to more than one language
